Powassan Boat Manufacturer Expands
McGuinty Government Boosts Local Economy, Creates Jobs
Ontario is helping a wooden boat manufacturer in Powassan grow and create new jobs.
With support from the Province, B.Giesler & Sons Ltd. will build a new energy-efficient facility and get new equipment. This will allow them to make the manufacturing of their cedar strip boats more efficient, reduce labour costs and give them highway exposure to help attract more customers.
Partnering with companies in Northern Ontario communities is part of the McGuinty government's plan to create and support jobs for Ontario families and to strengthen local economies.
- Ontario is providing $175,000 to this project through the NOHFC's Enterprise North Job Creation program.
- B. Giesler & Sons has been building quality cedar strip boats for over 70 years. Today, they build 20 models of cedar boats and canoes.
- In the 2011 Ontario Budget, the government committed a $10-million increase for a total of $100 million to the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund in 2011-12.
“Our government is committed to helping companies like this Powassan institution expand and grow in our community. Giesler Boats has been building beautiful quality strip boats for over 70 years and I am thrilled that our government could help add another chapter to their incredible history and help ensure their ongoing success.”
“Thanks to the NOHFC we now have a new, more efficient facility and the highway exposure has brought an increased interest in our cedar strip boats. NOHFC was one of the key partners in making this move happen and they were excellent to work with.”
“The McGuinty government is committed to developing a strong private sector and supporting small - and medium-sized businesses in the North to promote economic development and prosperity. We have a vision to create new opportunities and jobs for our northern communities.”
