Barwick Wood Products Manufacturing Plant Saving On Electricity Costs
McGuinty Government Helping To Reduce Energy Costs, Protect Jobs
Ontario is helping Ainsworth Lumber Co. Ltd. reduce energy costs, stay competitive and protect 165 jobs at its operations in Barwick.
Through the Northern Industrial Electricity Rate (NIER) program, the company is receiving an energy rebate of two cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) to help manage electricity costs and improve energy efficiency and sustainability.
Partnering with companies in Northern Ontario communities is part of the McGuinty government's plan to create and support jobs for Ontario families and to strengthen local economies.
- Ontario has provided $1 million to Ainsworth Lumber Co. Ltd. for energy efficiencies achieved in 2010-2011, and the company will be eligible for further rebates.
- Ainsworth recently won a research and development award from Architect magazine for a new subflooring product whose unique technology accommodates the effects of swelling due to moisture exposure.
- Averaging $150 million per year in assistance, the three-year NIER program is providing electricity rebates to large industries in Northern Ontario that prepare and implement comprehensive energy management plans.
“The Northern Industrial Electricity Rate program is playing a critical role in advancing our local economies. As our government works together with these companies, we are helping them to manage their electricity costs and improve their energy efficiency, while protecting jobs in the North.”
“This program will help northern industry remain competitive and retain and attract jobs and investment, while contributing to energy conservation.”
