Northern Businesses Plug Into Clean Energy Opportunities
McGuinty Government Supporting Green, Sustainable Northern Economy
Ontario is helping Northern Ontario businesses adopt green energy solutions.
Through the Province's Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) Northern Energy Program, 10 northern businesses are installing renewable energy technologies, such as geothermal heating and cooling systems and solar energy systems. These retrofits are making their operations more eco-friendly and enhancing their long-term prospects for success.
Investing in Northern Ontario businesses is part of the McGuinty government's Growth Plan for Northern Ontario. A strong northern economy creates local jobs and protects the services that mean the most to families - health care and education.
- Since its introduction, the Northern Energy Program has invested a total of more than $10.8 million in 185 projects throughout the North.
- The Northern Energy Program helps eligible northern businesses pursue clean, renewable energy options that reduce their demands on external energy sources.
“Our investments through the NOHFC Northern Energy Program are helping northern businesses that are ready to embrace and adopt new energy opportunities. These investments are leading to more stable, profitable job-creating enterprises, while laying the foundations for a cleaner, greener Northern Ontario.”
“Ontario is committed to building a clean, modern and reliable electricity system. Initiatives like the NOHFC Northern Energy Program will help transform the North's electricity system, combat climate change and produce cleaner, reliable power for generations to come.”
