McGuintyGovernment Strengthening Northern Economy, Creating Jobs

Ontario is helping the MitaanjigamiingFirst Nation near Fort Francesexpand its community centre, which will hold community gatherings, sports events and conferences.

With support from the province's Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) the Mitaanjigamiingmulti-use facility will include a 7,000-square foot gymnasium with storage, stage and washroom areas, as well as a conference, technology and kitchen/catering facility. Renovations are expected to be complete by December 2012.

Investing in Northern Ontario's communities is part of the McGuinty government's Growth Plan for Northern Ontario. A strong Northern economy creates local jobs and protects the services that mean the most to families - health care and education.

  • Since the introduction of this program in 2005, the NOHFC has invested over $256 million in 513 projects, creating over 5,000 jobs and sustaining over 1,300 jobs.
