Statement On Hurricane Sandy From Ontario Minister Of Energy, Chris Bentley - Oct. 31, 2012

Today, Chris Bentley, Minister of Energy issued the following statement:

"I'm pleased that hydro crews have restored power to the vast majority of homes affected by storm related outages. As of 6:00 this morning, crews have restored power for more than 140,000 customers hit at the peak of the storm, and are working to turn the lights back on for less than 10,000 customers still without power.

Communities still experiencing power outages include: Toronto; Parry Sound; Bracebridge; and Lambton.

We expect that power will be restored for the remaining customers at some point today. However continuing heavy winds and rain could affect restoration efforts in some areas. Also, with localized or remote outages power restoration may take more time.

I can assure Ontarians that hydro crews have been working throughout the night and will continue today to restore power for families and businesses. Affected utilities across the province are working very hard to restore power under difficult weather conditions and challenging circumstances.

Hurricane related updates can be found at www.ontario.ca/sandy. Hydro customers can also contact their local power company for up-to-date, local information. Customers may call the phone number located on their utility bill or check their local utility's website."
