NCIR Projects for Northwestern Ontario

Northern Communities Investment Readiness Investments are supporting the development of new projects in Northwestern Ontario.

  • The Township of Chapple received NCIR funding to conduct two projects: to complete an asset inventory to determine what assets are available both private and public organizations and to develop an economic development strategy.
  • Ochiichagwe'babigoining First Nation received NCIR funding to conduct two projects: a market strategy and a gaps/needs analysis.  
  • The Lake of the Woods Development Commission received NCIR funding to complete a community profile. 
  • The Township of Manitouwadge received NCIR funding for two projects: a market study that will identify the industrial/business sectors which represent the best opportunity for investment attraction and a needs/gap analysis.  
  • The Municipality of Greenstone received NCIR funding for five projects:
    • A waste management attraction project to attract an experienced firm to manage the waste generated in the Far North Ring of Fire exploration.
    • A transportation and freight management action plan.
    • A Greenstone Expo Investment and Labour Force Attraction Event which will provide a venue for mining companies to network with suppliers and service providers. 
    • An investment attraction strategy to attract Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) firms to the Greenstone area.
    • A value proposition to define the municipality's investment value as compared to its competitors.
  • The Town of Atikokan has received NCIR funding for three projects:
    • To ensure community data is in Geographic Information System (GIS) format which is widely used by site selectors, potential investors, and developers.
    • To complete the Analysis of Available Land Suitable for Residential Use.
    • To conduct a temporary housing study.
  • Marten Falls First Nation received NCIR funding to provide a three-day training session on basic economic development and economic development principles in the community.
  • Eabametoong First Nation has received NCIR funding to provide a three-day business investment training session in the community. 
  • Nokiiwin Tribal Council received NCIR funding to develop an updated inventory of available assets in each of its member communities that will be added to individual community profiles and later aggregated into a comprehensive regional profile.
  • The Dryden Development Corporation (DDC) received NCIR funding to develop a Community Foreign Direct Investment Strategy.
  • The Rainy River Future Development Corporation received NCIR funding to conduct an industrial park assessment. 
  • The Eagle Lake First Nation received NCIR funding for two projects: to complete a broad based asset inventory and to conduct a market study.
  • The Lake of the Woods Development Commission received NCIR funding to conduct a value-added forestry sector profile.
  • The Wauzhushk Onigum First Nation received NCIR funding for three projects:
    • The development of a community profile to be included on the Invest in Ontario website.
    • The undertaking of an investment readiness strategy workshop.
    • The development of an asset inventory.
