Supporting Economic Development in Northeastern Ontario
Ontario Government Creating Jobs, Strengthening Northern Economy
Ontario is helping to build a stronger, more diverse northern economy while creating 55 jobs across Northeastern Ontario.
With support from the province's Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), 20 economic development projects in Northeastern Ontario are receiving nearly $2.3 million to help strengthen regional economies.
Michael Gravelle, Minister of Northern Development and Mines, announced the funding during his travels through several Northeastern Ontario communities, including stops in North Bay, Timmins, Cochrane and Kapuskasing.
Investing in economic development is an important part of the Ontario government's Growth Plan for Northern Ontario. A strong northern economy will help create a fair society and give the people of Ontario more opportunities for jobs and economic prosperity.
- The NOHFC is marking 25 years with the theme The NOHFC @ 25: Proud past, Strong Future.
- Over the past two days, Minister Gravelle has announced nearly $3.7 million in NOHFC funding for 23 projects in Northeastern Ontario.
- Since 2003, the NOHFC has approved over $890 million in funding, more than 5,800 projects and created or retained more than 22,900 jobs in Northern Ontario.
“I am very pleased that our government continues to support important investments that are creating new jobs and improving the lives of countless families across Northern Ontario. Through the NOHFC, our government is helping the communities of Cochrane, Timmins, Kapuskasing and Hearst increase employment opportunities and build stronger regional economies.”
