Investments in Northern Film and TV Industry

Ontario, through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation, is investing $24 million in 25 projects in Northern Ontario.

Investments in television and film production projects include:

  • New Metric Media is receiving $3 million for the production of season 2 of the TV series "Bad Blood" to be shot in and around Sudbury
  • High Park Entertainment Inc. is receiving $3 million for the production of the Netflix TV series "V Wars" to be shot in and around Sudbury, North Bay and Sault Ste. Marie
  • DCTV Rescue Inc. is receiving $2.7 million for the production of a TV series "Northern Rescue" to be shot in and around Parry Sound
  • Sandbay Entertainment Inc. is receiving $500,000 to produce the feature film "Noel en boite" in and around North Bay
  • Nite Falls Studios Inc. is receiving $500,000 to produce the feature film "Fall Around Her" in and around Atikameksheng Anishnawbek
  • Jordan Barker Films Inc. is receiving $500,000 to produce the feature film "Stranded" in and around Sudbury
  • Foundry Films Inc. is receiving $500,000 to produce the feature film "Goalie" in and around Sudbury
  • Darius Films Inc. is receiving $500,000 to produce the feature film "Killing Daniel" in and around Sudbury
  • Father of Cain Productions Inc. is receiving $500,000 to produce the feature film "Skin and Bones" in and around Thunder Bay
  • Circle Blue Media is receiving $686,000 to produce the feature film "Angelique's Island" in and around Thunder Bay
  • Now Entertainment Group Ltd. Is receiving $500,000 to produce the feature film "Self Storage" in and around Sudbury
  • IMPACT Arts is receiving $42,500 for the production of the feature film "Autumn Springs" shot in and around Sioux Lookout
  • Fire Song Films Inc. is receiving $5,000 for the production of the feature film "Fire Songs" shot in Thunder Bay
  • Franco Finn Films Inc. is receiving $47,800 for the production of a documentary entitled "One Woman's North" in and around Thunder Bay
  • Imaginarium Studio is receiving $339,939 for the production of feature film "The Days of Destitute" shot in and around Thunder Bay
  • Tourism Northern Ontario is receiving $100,000 to develop and televise thirteen episodes of "The Ontario Experience" on the Sportsman Channel.

Investments for film and television production facilities and services include:

  • Treadstone Entertainment Inc. is receiving $725,000 to expand its animation facility and create a new live action sound stage with FX capabilities
  • Valor Props & FX is receiving $16,500 for the establishment of a prop, replica and special effects business.

Investments in other Sudbury area projects include:

  • Science North is receiving $100,000 for a feasibility study on expanding operations in the Northwest, including offering science education experiences to all age and cultural groups, including Indigenous and Francophone residents in small communities.
  • Science North is receiving $1 million to renovate half of the centre's fourth floor in Sudbury, and to hubs in six communities across Northern Ontario which will have labs, exhibits, and programming spaces.
  • Laurentian University is receiving $5 million for the Creation of the Research, Innovation and Engineering (RIE) Centre, expansion of the Fraser Building; and improved laboratory space within the Bharti School of Engineering.
  • Millennium 1 Solutions is receiving $1 million to open a call centre that will mostly service Loblaw's Customer Loyalty Program.
  • Rna Diagnostics Inc. is receiving $500,000 for a pilot demonstration of the RNA Disruption Assay (RDA), which provides doctors with an evaluation of how individual patients are responding to chemotherapy.
  • The Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation (CEMI) is receiving $1,862,501 to sustain their operations and help the organization develop a long-term sustainability model.
  • Centis Tile and Terrazzo Inc. is receiving $663,500 to expand their flooring, tile and countertop manufacturing and installation business.
