Ontario Supporting New Jobs in Mining Sector
Province Helping to Create Opportunity in Northern Ontario
Ontario is investing in the mining supply and services sector and creating jobs in the North by investing in 12 projects, helping to create 20 new full-time jobs.
Through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation, the province is investing in 12 mining supply and services companies across Northern Ontario including NorArc Steel in Earlton. The company will receive funding to design and build a mobile aggregate mixer unit that will increase mixture accuracy and improve energy efficiency.
The mobile aggregate mixer unit will allow several materials such as sand, salt, dirt, pellet, wood chips, soils, and other particulate matter to be prepared and used for specific application, such as sand and salt for roads.
Supporting economic development in the North is part of the government's plan to support care, create opportunity and make life more affordable during this period of rapid economic change. The plan includes free prescription drugs for everyone under 25, and 65 or over, through the biggest expansion of medicare in a generation, free tuition for hundreds of thousands of students, a higher minimum wage and better working conditions, and free preschool child care from 2 ½ to kindergarten.

- Ontario's leading-edge mining supply and services sector employs more than 40,000 people and has an estimated direct economic impact of $6.6 billion.
- Since 2013, the province has invested more than $654 million through the NOHFC in over 4,003 projects, leveraging more than $2.3 billion in direct economic activity and creating or sustaining over 15,200 jobs in Northern Ontario.
