Ontario Strengthening Emergency Services in North Bay
Province Opens New Northern Fire Base to Better Protect Local Communities
Ontario is increasing emergency response services and helping to protect Northern communities and forestry resources by opening a new fire management headquarters in North Bay.
Kathryn McGarry, Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry, made the announcement today at Jack Garland Airport along with North Bay Mayor Al McDonald. The facility consolidates fire crews and support staff from four locations into one building on the airport grounds, allowing for faster deployment of fire crews to the surrounding communities and forests.
The opening of the new fire management headquarters will create and maintain a total of 39 jobs in the North Bay area. The facility will also be a safer, more accessible work environment for firefighting teams.
Ontario is making the largest infrastructure investment in hospitals, schools, public transit, roads and bridges in the province's history. To learn more about what's happening in your community, go to Ontario.ca/BuildON.
