Date of Conviction: January 9, 2018, at the Burlington Provincial Offences CourtPenalty Imposed: A fine of $20,636.84 was imposed on Mr. Parsons. He was given 30 days to pay. The court also imposed a 25-per-cent victim fine surcharge as required under the Provincial Offences Act.
Background: On November 24, 2016, based on an investigation by the Ministry of Finance, a vehicle was stopped on Walkers Line north of the Queen Elizabeth Way highway. A subsequent search of the vehicle, under the Tobacco Tax Act, revealed 43,175 unmarked cigarettes. The cigarettes were seized and forfeited.
