Court Imposes Fine of $579,563 for Possession of Unmarked Fine-Cut Tobacco

Description of Offence: Possession of unmarked fine-cut tobacco under the Tobacco Tax Act

Date of Conviction: April 4, 2018, at the Cornwall Provincial Offences Court

Penalty Imposed: A fine of $579,563 was imposed. Danny Guindon was given 90 days to pay. In addition, the court imposed a 25 per cent victim fine surcharge as required under the Provincial Offences Act.

Background: On August 21, 2017, officers from the Cornwall Regional Task Force searched a vehicle and discovered 1,171,600 grams of unmarked fine-cut tobacco.  All tobacco products were seized and forfeited.
