Description of Offence: Possession of unmarked cigarettes, under the Tobacco Tax Act

Date of Offence: December 12, 2017

Date of Conviction: June 18, 2018, at the Windsor Provincial Offences Court

Penalty Imposed: A fine of $10,000 was imposed. In addition, the court imposed a 25 per cent victim fine surcharge as required under the Provincial Offences Act.

Background: On December 12, 2017, Ministry of Finance investigators executed a search warrant and discovered 42,160 unmarked cigarettes. All tobacco products were seized and forfeited.
