New York Resident Fined $9,300 in Ontario for Possession of Unmarked Tobacco

Penalty Imposed: A fine of $9,300 was imposed. In addition, the court imposed a 25 per cent victim fine surcharge as required under the Provincial Offences Act.
Background: On October 5, 2016, based on an investigation by the Cornwall Regional Task Force, a vehicle was searched under the Excise Act, 2001. The search revealed 201,000 grams of unmarked fine-cut tobacco. All tobacco products were seized and forfeited.
