Toronto Resident Sentenced to Jail for Possession of Unmarked Tobacco

Description of Offences: Two counts of possession of unmarked cigarettes for the purpose of sale, under the Tobacco Tax Act

Date of Offences: January 27, 2018 and February 21, 2018

Date of Convictions: November 27, 2018, at the Milton Ontario Court

Penalties Imposed: Three days in jail on each count.

Background: On January 27, 2018 and February 21, 2018 Ministry of Finance investigators and officers from the Ontario Provincial Police searched a vehicle and discovered 62,400 and 50,600 unmarked cigarettes, respectively. All tobacco products were seized and forfeited.
