Quebec Resident Fined $20,000 for Possession of Unmarked Fine Cut Tobacco

Description of Offences: Possession of unmarked fine-cut tobacco and possession of unmarked fine-cut tobacco for the purpose of sale, under the Tobacco Tax Act                              

Date of Offences: October 3, 2018

Date of Convictions: July 23, 2019 at the Cornwall Court

Penalties Imposed: A fine of $20,000 was imposed, along with a 25 per cent victim fine surcharge, as required under the Provincial Offences Act.

Background: On October 3, 2018, RCMP officers searched a vehicle and discovered 895 grams of unmarked fine-cut tobacco. All tobacco products were seized and forfeited.
