Description of Offence: Possession of unmarked cigarettes for the purpose of sale, under the Tobacco Tax Act

Date of Offence: February 25, 2019

Date of Conviction: May 30, 2019, at the Toronto Provincial Offences Court

Penalty Imposed: A fine of $44,000.00 was imposed. In addition, the court imposed a 25 per cent victim fine surcharge as required under the Provincial Offences Act.

Background: On February 25, 2019, Ministry of Finance investigators executed a search warrant and seized 78,500 unmarked cigarettes. The tobacco products were seized and forfeited.
