Description of Offence: Possession of unmarked cigarettes, under the Tobacco Tax Act

Date of Conviction: October 3, 2019, at the Hamilton Provincial Offences Court

Penalty Imposed: A fine of $11,696 was imposed. In addition, the court imposed a 25 per cent victim fine surcharge as required under the Provincial Offences Act.

Background: On October 23, 2018, an Ontario Provincial Police officer searched a vehicle and discovered 20,200 unmarked cigarettes. The tobacco products were seized and forfeited.
