Description of Offence: Possession of unmarked cigarettes, under the Tobacco Tax Act

Date of Conviction: November 1, 2019, at the Hamilton Provincial Offences Court

Penalty Imposed: A fine of $12,000 was imposed. In addition, the court imposed a 25 per cent victim fine surcharge as required under the Provincial Offences Act.

Background: On May 9, 2018, Ministry of Finance investigators searched a vehicle and discovered 61,000 unmarked cigarettes. The tobacco products were seized and forfeited.
