Statement by Ontario's Minister of Health on the Passage of the Affirming Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Act

Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care

Today, Dr. Eric Hoskins, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, issued the following statement on the Affirming Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Act:

"I commend MPP Cheri DiNovo for bringing this important legislation forward and I am pleased that all parties came together to ensure the protection and the rights of Ontario's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

Our government is committed to ensuring that all Ontarians receive evidence-based care and that they are treated ethically, equitably and fairly. The practice of conversion therapy has no place in Ontario, a province where acceptance, respect and diversity are our most cherished strengths.

As Minister of Health, I will continue to work with the health care community to ensure that nobody is subject to this dangerous treatment and that this is clear to all Ontarians.

It's an important reminder that we must work together to uphold the rights that every Ontarian deserves and is entitled to. The people of Ontario should feel confident that their government will continue to respect and protect their right to be who they are."
