Ontario Appoints Supervisor for Brockville General Hospital
Province Addressing Organizational Challenges with Appointment of Kevin Empey
Ontario has appointed Kevin Empey as Hospital Supervisor for the Brockville General Hospital, to address the organizational challenges identified by the South East Local Health Integration Network Board.
Mr. Empey will take the necessary steps to improve the functioning of the hospital, which includes re-establishing a board.
Mr. Empey is a well-respected, senior health care leader with a strong financial background and a track record of successful hospital management. Most recently, Mr. Empey served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Lakeridge Health from 2008 to 2016.
In his role as Hospital Supervisor, Mr. Empey will have the authority to exercise all of the powers of the hospital board, the corporation, its officers and employees. He will start his work immediately and will report directly to the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care.
Under Mr. Empey's supervision, all hospital operations will continue and patients at Brockville General Hospital will continue to receive quality health care.
- Mr. Empey has worked in the hospital sector since 1990, and has held senior roles at University Health Network, Peel Memorial Hospital, St. Michael's Hospital and Lakeridge Health.
- Mr. Empey is a Chartered Accountant and graduate of Harvard's Advanced Management Program. He is also a guest lecturer at the University of Toronto, and York University.
- Mr. Empey has been heavily involved in transforming hospital services through the creation of shared clinical and support services and private/public partnerships. In April 2016, he was appointed as Chair of Ontario’s Healthcare Sector Supply Chain Strategy Expert Panel. He previously served on the board of the Ontario Hospital Association.
- Mr. Empey is the 22nd hospital supervisor to be appointed in Ontario since 1981.
