Canada And Ontario Partner With United Way Toronto On Community Hubs Initiatives
Rexdale Multi-Service Community Hub
The Rexdale Multi-Service Community Hub initiative is a partnership between Albion Neighbourhood Services, United Way Toronto, and the City of Toronto to develop a multi-service facility in one of Toronto's most underserviced communities. It will establish a 62,000 square foot facility in a former secondary school near Kipling Avenue and Finch Avenue West in Toronto. The Community Hub will be a central place that brings together service providers and local residents to offer a broad range of social services and programs, as well as community-accessible space for the local neighbourhood.
The total estimated cost of the project is $8.19 million. The governments of Canada and Ontario are each providing $2.73 million, the City of Toronto is providing $1 million, and United Way Toronto and other partners are providing the remaining costs.
On September 11, 2009, the Government of Canada announced a contribution of $1 million towards the Rexdale initiatives. Since that time, the scope of the project has been re-evaluated and today's announcement increases the federal contribution to $2.73 million.
Bathurst-Finch Community Hub
The Bathurst-Finch Community Hub initiative is a partnership between New Heights Community Health Centres and United Way Toronto, to build a brand new 7,000 square foot facility at a former school near Bathurst Street and Finch Avenue. The hub will enable community and social service agencies to provide services in areas such as settlement, employment, mental health, and neighbourhood arts and cultural activities.
The funding partners involved are investing a total of $3 million in the project, with the Governments of Canada, Ontario and the United Way Toronto each investing $1 million.
