Supporting Jobs and Growth in Collingwood and The Blue Mountains
Ontario Investing in Local Economic Development
Ontario is helping Collingwood and The Blue Mountains attract investment and create jobs with support from the province's Rural Economic Development Program.
With $393,152 in funding from this program, the province is helping Collingwood-based Goodall Rubber Co. of Canada purchase new state-of-the-art machinery and establish a new fertilizer production line that will create 22 local jobs.
The province, through the same program, will also support The Blue Mountains with close to $28,000 to help the town collect data on local business trends and develop a comprehensive plan to attract new businesses, grow and protect existing companies, strengthen the economy and support job creation.
Supporting rural communities is part of the government's economic plan that is creating jobs for today and tomorrow. The comprehensive plan and its six priorities focus on Ontario's greatest strengths -- its people and strategic partnerships.
- Since 2003, the province has invested more than $167 million in 468 Rural Economic Development Program projects, generating more than $1.2 billion in local economic activity and creating more than 35,000 jobs.
- The government is also supporting regional economic development through programs such as the Eastern Ontario Development Fund, the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund, and the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation.
“To help grow and diversify rural Ontario’s economy, we must continue to provide local communities with business-friendly tools, resources and support. Through the RED program, rural communities will be better positioned to attract investment, create jobs and grow their economies.”
“Goodall Collingwood is excited about the new funding the Ontario government is providing through the Rural Economic Development Program. Through capital investments, Goodall can better plan for future growth, foster innovation and create jobs.”
“This funding will help the Town of The Blue Mountains undertake a Business Retention and Expansion Plan that will enable our business community to identify priorities, grow our economy in the long term and attract good jobs. I would like to thank the Ontario government for this important investment.”
