Summer theatre attracts visitors, supports economy
Huronia Historical Parks Renews Theatre Company At Discovery Harbour
Huronia Historical Parks has selected Drayton Entertainment to operate the King's Wharf Theatre for 10 more years.
Part of Discovery Harbour, an attraction of the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, the summer theatre attracts 26,000 people annually to Penetanguishene and has become an important cultural landmark.
Discovery Harbour is a recreated, 19th century naval and military garrison on Southern Georgian Bay.
The attraction is home to the replica British sailing ships H.M.S. Tecumseth and H.M.S. Bee.
- Drayton Entertainment has operated the theatre since 1999.
- The historic properties at Discovery Harbour include the restored Officers' Quarters and provide visitors with the opportunity to learn first-hand the challenges of shipwrights, sailors, soldiers and other military and civilian personnel at this isolated outpost in Upper Canada.
“Huronia Historical Parks is an important catalyst to tourism on Southern Georgian Bay. Providing high quality tourist attractions like King’s Wharf Theatre helps ensure the economic prosperity of the local community.”
“It has been a true privilege to entertain such loyal theatregoers over the past decade. Their investment along with the valued support of Huronia Historical Parks and the entire community allows us to present a quality theatre experience that consistently exceeds customers’ expectations. We look forward to our next decade on the shores of Georgian Bay.”
“Members of the Penetanguishene Council and I are proud of the quality theatre experience presented at King’s Wharf and the strong partnership established between Huronia Historical Parks and Drayton Entertainment.”
“The new contract means Drayton Entertainment can build on their past success and help the theatre develop new opportunities such as a longer play season and more productions.”
