Ontario Support For The 2010 Olympic Torch Relay

Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport

Ontario is supporting Olympic Torch Relay celebrations in 62 communities across the province, including 42 communities that will host official mid-day or evening celebrations and 20 First Nations communities that will host traditional Aboriginal Flame Blessings by local elders.

The 62 communities eligible for funding have all been designated by the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) to host an official event to mark the visit of the Olympic Flame.

The Olympic Flame will spend 21 days in Ontario, second longest only after the host province of British Columbia.  The torch route is within a one-hour drive for 92 per cent of Ontario's population.

The Olympic Flame enters the province through Hawkesbury on December 11, 2009 and continues on its journey until January 5, 2010 for a final Flame at Iskatewizaagegan No. 39.
