Support for the Ontario Music Fund

“Simply put, without the Ontario Music Fund, the opportunity to fully realize our Live at Massey Hall concert and concert film series would not have been possible. Thanks to the OMF, we were able to expand our marketing and production efforts, and double the amount of artists who could participate in our first season. Season 1 of Live at Massey Hall supported eight Canadian artists, welcoming thousands of new patrons to experience live music in our iconic hall, in many cases for the first time. This important series promotes not only Massey Hall and its legacy but the incredible Canadian artists it supports and their audiences who will continue to grow and be able to experience these films for years to come.”

Charles S. Cutts

President and CEO, Massey Hall & Roy Thomson Hall

“The Ontario Music Fund supported the continued growth of Ottawa Bluesfest, Ontario's largest outdoor music festival and contributed to its national and international reputation as one of North America's most popular music festivals. The support allowed us to present 22 Canadian, Ontario and Ottawa music artists exposing them to huge crowds and new audiences as well as industry contacts. Without the support of OMF we may not have been able to present some of these Canadian artists at the 2014 festival.”

Mark Monahan

Executive Director, Ottawa's RBC Bluesfest

“With the support of the Ontario Music Fund and the Music Industry Development program, CMW was able to initiate, reinforce and establish long-standing relationships and partnerships with events and festivals in all corners of the globe and leverage these relationships in order to maximize the potential to help Canadian export-ready music companies and artists, the majority of which are Ontario-based. Many thanks too, to the OMDC and OMF team in putting this together seamlessly – your responsiveness and availability made a difficult task manageable under very tight timelines!”

Neill Dixon

President, Canadian Music Week

“On a personal note, I would like to say a heartfelt 'thank you.' There is so much hard work and advocacy that goes on behind the scenes to get this kind of funding in place and then to properly administer it. I count myself among the luckiest artists in the world to come from a place that says 'art matters, art needs support, art is good for the soul and great for the economy.' This funding program is walking the talk and making a huge difference to artists trying to create great work, and to helping build the industry support network around them to get it to market locally, nationally and internationally. The long term effects of this program will be felt for years to come and I hope that it will continue to exist, grow and further enable artists to create quality work in a highly competitive, complex and ever changing environment. Thank you for this opportunity, I am profoundly grateful for it.”

Peter Katz

Singer-Songwriter/Owner, Plaid Shirt Music

“Our experience with the Ontario Music Fund has been monumental in the continued growth of our company. Without the OMF support we would not have been able to fund the type of recordings that we have made, nor find a way to keep bands on the road while they are building their profile.”

Mike McKeown

President, Cameron House Records

“We are pleased with the tremendous support of, and investment in, the domestic music industry, and sincerely thank the Government of Ontario and the Ontario Media Development Corporation for the Ontario Music Fund. It is a testament to the vibrancy and economic viability of independent music labels, managers, agents, studios, artists and many other members of CIMA who collectively employ more than 2,400 people and who represent more than 6,200 Canadian artists. The OMF will enable our members to invest further in their businesses, create jobs in the industry and increase the support and development of a great many talented Canadian independent artists.”

Stuart Johnston

President, Canadian Independent Music Association

“The Ontario Music Fund has positively changed the landscape for music, and signals that the Government of Ontario agrees that music is a good investment for this province; in fact, that it is one of our competitive advantages. We commend the Government of Ontario for creating the conditions that encourage the private sector to invest in music in order to create jobs and stimulate growth.”

Graham Henderson

President & CEO, Music Canada

“The experience with the Ontario Music Fund has been positive and highly beneficial. Through the program, Paper Bag Records was able to increase marketing domestically and internationally. Without the funding received by the organization, Paper Bag Records would have a significantly lower marketing budget for Ontario based bands which would create less exposure and result in lower album sales in all markets. A strong marketing campaign is essential for the promotion of a new release and results in higher album sales.”

Trevor Larocque

President, Paper Bag Records

“CP Music Group would like to sincerely thank Minister Michael Coteau, the Ontario Music Fund and the Ontario Media Development Corporation for their continued support of this independent full-service music company. The funding from the Music Company Development program has opened up considerable opportunities for this company's exclusively Ontario-based roster to effectively compete at national and international levels and showcase the breadth of its artists' talent to the global recording industry and beyond! Once again, we greatly appreciate the support and belief in CP Music Group to contribute artistically, culturally, and economically to the Ontario music industry!”

CEO, CP Music Group Inc.
