Investing in Ontario's Culture and Tourism Attractions

Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport

The government is investing up to $26 million in capital projects in Ontario's culture and tourism attractions. The following chart includes examples of major projects for the tourism and culture agencies, attractions and transfer payment entities receiving 2019-20 funding as part of the ministry's Capital Repair and Rehabilitation Program:

Art Gallery of Ontario

  • Upgrades to the security system and for the sprinklers in the shipping dock

Fort William Historical Park

  • Repairs to structural elements of buildings
  • Repairs to ramps, pathways and fencing

Huronia Historical Parks

  • Renovation of the Tecumseth Centre at Discovery Harbour 
  • Improvements to the drainage at the north court of Sainte-Marie Among the Hurons

McMichael Canadian Art Collection

  • Repairs to public walking trail
  • Emergency roofing repairs

Ottawa Convention Centre (Shaw Centre)

  • Replacement of the security system
  • Replacements and improvements to the centre's kitchen

Ontario Heritage Trust

  • Replacement of the HVAC system at the Ontario Heritage Centre
  • Repairs to the Elgin Winter Garden Theatre elevator and escalator systems

Ontario Science Centre

  • Replacement of critical IT infrastructure
  • Upgrades to the street lighting in the south parking lot

Royal Botanical Gardens

  • Resurfacing of the Princess Point parking lot 
  • Replacement of compromised windows at the RBG Centre

Royal Ontario Museum

  • Repairs to leaking window seals at the Curatorial Centre
  • Repairs to deteriorating hardwood flooring sections at the Biodiversity Galleries

Science North

  • Replacement of fire hydrants, remediation of stone and pavement paths
  • Replacement of damaged electrical equipment at Dynamic Earth

St. Lawrence Parks Commission

  • Replacement of high-priority washrooms at their parks 
  • Restoration of the Fort Henry National Historic Site

Ontario Place Corporation

  • Land improvements to accommodate third-party programming
