Ontario Government Improving Public Transit

Ministry of Transportation

Ontario is making it easier to take public transit by adding more GO Train trips along the Lakeshore line.

Starting June 29, GO Trains that currently run hourly along the Lakeshore line between Aldershot and Oshawa will run every 30 minutes, seven days a week. This will add 263 new train trips in total along the line, including:

  • Eighteen new trips on weekdays, 24 new trips on Saturdays and 15 new trips on Sundays on the Lakeshore East line
  • Nineteen new trips on weekdays, 24 new trips on Saturdays and 15 new trips on Sundays on the Lakeshore West line

Investing in public transit is part of the new Ontario government's plan to help reduce congestion, strengthen the economy and create jobs.

Quick Facts

  • During peak hours, GO Trains run about every 10 to 15 minutes.

  • With the 15-minute GO Train Service Guarantee, riders can get a credit if their train arrival is delayed 15 minutes or more.
  • GO Transit moves 65 million riders a year.
  • Since 2003, Ontario has invested approximately $7.7 billion in GO Transit to improve service and expand routes.

“To offer more service so more people can access transit, we are pleased to announce that we will almost be doubling off-peak service on the Lakeshore line. This is the largest expansion of service in GO Transit’s history and is a key component of Metrolinx’s Regional Transportation Plan, The Big Move.”
