Minister's Update on Rt. Hon. Herb Gray Parkway

Ministry of Transportation

Today, Glen Murray, Minister of Transportation and Minister of Infrastructure, released the following statement on the Rt. Hon. Herb Gray Parkway in Windsor:

"In July, I asked a committee of independent experts to review certain concrete girders on the Rt. Hon. Herb Gray Parkway and provide recommendations on their safety and durability.  In August, the review was expanded to examine additional girders of the Parkway that require further evaluation.

Today, the experts provided the Deputy Minister and Chief Engineer with their supplemental report on these additional girders.

The Ministry of Transportation's chief engineer is now reviewing this report and will report back to me as quickly as possible.

On behalf of the people of Ontario, I extend my appreciation to the Chair, Harvey Kirsh and panel members Dr. Dagmar Svecova, Dr. Shamim Sheikh, Carlos Laborde-Basto, and Dr. Husham Almansour for their dedication and commitment in undertaking this review.  Their work is now complete.

The Rt. Hon. Herb Gray Parkway is a vital economic link and provides employment for many local residents. I want to again thank the residents of Windsor and Essex County for their patience during this process."
