Statement By The Minister Of Transportation On UP Express

Ministry of Transportation

Today, Steven Del Duca, Minister of Transportation, issued the following statement about Union Pearson (UP) Express fares:

"I am pleased that today, the Metrolinx Board of Directors approved new fares for UP Express.  Effective March 9, passengers using a PRESTO card will be able to travel between Union Station to Pearson Airport for $9.  The cost for those not using PRESTO will be $12.

The new UP Express fares will make this service available to more families and will make it a more attractive option for all airport travellers and commuters.

Since service first launched in June 2015, UP Express has offered a predictable and reliable service for passengers.

It is clear that people who use the UP Express, love it.

But it is equally clear that ridership numbers need to increase and more must be done to make this happen.

We have listened, we have learned and today we are taking action to make the UP Express more affordable.

I am confident that today's announcement along with continued promotional improvements will lead to growth in ridership."
