Statement From the Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs on Franco-Ontarian Day
Today, Marie-France Lalonde, Ontario's Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs, issued the following statement:
"On this 25th day of September, I am pleased to pay tribute and highlight the exceptional contributions of Ontario's francophones to the social, cultural, economic and political life of this province for more than 400 years.
Francophones have left their mark on Ontario's history and are helping to shape our future.
Ontario's Francophonie is shining beyond provincial and national borders. Our province's formal application to become an observer-member of the International Organization of La Francophonie and the recent renewal of the Ontario-Quebec Cooperation Agreement attest to this desire to broaden our horizons.
More than ever, Ontario is committed to working in partnership with our francophone community to strengthen its linguistic, cultural and socio-economic vitality.
On this Franco-Ontarian Day, I invite all Ontarians to celebrate our francophone culture and heritage as invaluable assets ofour province. Thank you for helping to make Ontario a province that is dynamic, inclusive and open to the world."
