Local Food Served Up At Toronto Restaurants

McGuinty Government Applauds IL FORNELLO For Savouring Ontario

Toronto's IL FORNELLO restaurant chain is celebrating the one year anniversary of its all-Ontario menu today.

IL FORNELLO is one of more than 70 fine and vacation dining restaurants that have already joined the province's Savour Ontario program, which showcases the best and freshest that Ontario has to offer. Members are committed to promoting local foods, serving and identifying Ontario food items on their menus.

The Savour Ontario program is part of the government's support for local foods, which received a $56 million boost in the 2008 provincial budget.

  • Research shows that Ontarians are attracted to local foods on menu when dining in fine and vacation dining restaurants. In fact, 64 per cent of Ontarians like to try local foods when they're on vacation.
  • The number one reason people are interested in Ontario references on the menu is the freshness of the food.
