Milford Cheese Maker Gets Boost
McGuinty Government Helping Local Processor, Protecting Environment
Black River Cheese, with the help of provincial funding, is making environmental upgrades at its facility to exceed current standards and protect the province's drinking water.
Provincial support is helping this local cheese manufacturer to implement a fully functioning waste water treatment system. The plant's waste water would be treated to exceed current environmental standards and help in the provincial initiative for safe drinking water.
- The government is providing $264,000 for this rural economic development initiative.
- The Black River Cheese Company has been in operation for over 108 years and has 30 year-round employees.
“Our government has partnered with local food processors to help them succeed. These projects will enable cheese makers to remain strong in today's economy, and will help these companies to reduce their environmental impact.”
“With the provincial investment in improving our wastewater management process, we can continue making quality local cheeses and help protect the environment at the same time.”
