Food Processing Improvements In Perth County
McGuinty Government Supports Agri-Food Industry, Rural Communities
Ontario is helping a local food processor in Perth County upgrade its facilities to meet the demand for more locally-grown food.
With support from Ontario's Rural Economic Development Program, Feiges Gourmet Dressings will install new equipment, implement a new food safety management system and conduct a nutrition study for its Listowel plant. These upgrades will create new jobs, increase production capacities and ensure the company is operating to the highest industry standards.A strong agri-food industry is part of the McGuinty government's plan to create jobs and opportunities that will grow the province's economy.
- Ontario has invested more than $160 million in 394 projects through the Rural Economic Development Program and generated more than $1.1 billion in new economic activity.
- In June, Ontario had an increase of more than 40,000 jobs and the unemployment rate declined to 7.7 percent.
“When we invest in our rural food processors, we stimulate rural economies, grow support for local food and create jobs for our families. By giving Feiges Gourmet Dressings the tools it needs to grow and succeed, we're building on the strength of both our rural communities and the agri-food sector.”
“Thanks to the support our government provided through the Rural Economic Development Program, Feiges will produce high-quality gourmet dressings for years to come. This investment means more high-quality ingredients will be sourced from local farmers and more jobs for our families here in Listowel.”
“When diners at our restaurant started asking us if they could take our gourmet dressings home with them, we knew we were on to something. Now we have a dedicated production facility and we're receiving support from the Ontario government to expand and create jobs right here in our community. We are very grateful for the support we received through the Rural Economic Development Program, and for the support we continue to receive from loyal customers in our community.”
