Ontario Helping to Create Jobs and Boost Economic Growth in Toronto

Province Partnering with Griffith Foods to Support More Than 300 Jobs in Toronto

Ontario is partnering with Griffith Foods Limited to modernize, scale up production and strengthen the food processing sector in the province with a major commercialization project that will help to create eight jobs and retain 337 positions in Toronto.

Griffith Foods Limited is a world-leading, family owned designer and manufacturer of customized ingredient systems for food companies around the world. Its wide range of products include marinades, glazes, cereal-based coatings, bread crumbs, salad croutons, dry seasonings, culinary liquid sauces, soups and gravies.

The investment through Ontario's Jobs and Prosperity Fund, will help Griffith Foods Limited to increase productivity, expand its specialty lines and modernize its equipment.

Supporting a strong and innovative food processing sector is part of the government's plan to support care, create opportunity and make life more affordable during this period of rapid economic change. The plan includes free prescription drugs for everyone under 25, and 65 or over, through the biggest expansion of medicare in a generation, free tuition for hundreds of thousands of students, a higher minimum wage and better working conditions, and free preschool child care from 2 ½ to kindergarten.

  • Ontario is investing up to $1.4 million in Griffiths Foods’ $14.2 million Commercialization Scale-up of Innovative Products project through its Jobs and Prosperity Fund – Food and Beverage Growth Fund.
  • As part of the Jobs and Prosperity Fund, the Food and Beverage Growth Fund supports food, beverage and bio-product manufacturing projects that help create and retain jobs, increase domestic and export market access and enhance innovation and productivity.
  • Since January 2013, Ontario has committed more than $830 million in projects administered under the Jobs and Prosperity Fund, leveraging over $10.9 billion in total investment. This is helping to create and retain approximately 46,000 jobs.
  • Ontario is home to Canada’s largest food processing sector, employing 94,500 people across the province.
