McGuinty Moves Forward On Promised Support For Health Council

QUEBEC CITY -- The McGuinty government moved forward on another campaign commitment today with promised support for the National Health Council. The McGuinty government is committed to making our public health care system more transparent and accountable to all Ontarians. The National Health Council will reinforce our own efforts to report to Ontarians on our progress in making medicare more open, transparent and accountable.

Premier McGuinty said, "Accountability to the public is a central principle of medicare in Ontario. The health care system must answer to the people who depend on it."

The National Health Council will help measure progress as we take the necessary steps to deliver the health care that all Ontarians need.

Premier McGuinty has asked his Health Minister, George Smitherman, to proceed immediately to seek Ontario's nominations for the National Health Council. Ontario will continue to work with its federal, provincial and territorial colleagues to establish an effective National Health Council that provides vital health care information to Ontarians and all Canadians.
