Deputy Minister Appointments
QUEEN'S PARK -- Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty announced the following deputy minister appointments:
Ron Sapsford as Deputy Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, effective March 1, 2005. Mr. Sapsford is currently the executive vice-president and chief operating officer of Hamilton Health Sciences Corporation. He was formerly the Assistant Deputy Minister of Institutional and Community Services for the Ontario Ministry of Health and chief operating officer with the Ontario Hospital Association. In addition to his extensive experience in the health-care field, he is an active contributor to the profession through teaching and committee work. Mr. Sapsford holds a bachelor of science from the University of Toronto and a master of health administration from the University of Ottawa.
Fareed Amin as Deputy Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, Deputy Minister Responsible for Seniors and Deputy Minister Responsible for Women's Issues, effective February 14, 2005. Mr. Amin is currently the Deputy Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs. He was formerly the Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy, Planning and Standards in the Ministry of Transportation, and Assistant Deputy Minister, Provincial-Local Finance Secretariat in the Ministry of Finance. He has also held senior management positions in Cabinet Office and the ministries of Northern Development and Mines and Municipal Affairs and Housing. Mr. Amin holds a bachelor of applied geography and planning from the University of Guyana and a master of public administration from Queen's University.
Judith Wright as Deputy Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, effective February 14, 2005. Ms. Wright was most recently the Acting Deputy Minister of Education and is currently the ministry's Assistant Deputy Minister of Strategic Planning and Elementary/Secondary Programs. She has held assistant deputy minister positions in Policy and Planning in the Ministry of Health, Conservation and Prevention in the Ministry of Environment and Energy, and Strategic Operations in the Ministry of Community and Social Services. She has extensive senior management experience in the social policy and operations areas of Cabinet Office and Health Canada in Ottawa. She holds an honours bachelor of arts from York University.
