Web Video By Premier McGuinty Congratulates Teachers, Students And Parents On Education Week

Office of the Premier

Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty today released a video on his new website to celebrate Education Week.

In his video, which can be found in the "Video Journal" section of the website, the Premier recognizes progress made and encourages students and teachers to continue working hard and reaching even higher to improve student achievement.

"Every Ontarian needs and deserves the opportunity to succeed -- and in today's world, the ladder of opportunity starts with a great elementary and secondary education," said Premier McGuinty. "I want to congratulate teachers, students and parents on their progress in making public education the best education."

Progress in public education includes peace and stability in schools and new teachers, textbooks and library resources. Student achievement is up. The dropout rate is coming down. Ontario's most successful schools are sharing their best practices and struggling students are getting the support they need.

"After two and a half years, let's pause this week to celebrate the tremendous progress we have made in public education and thank those responsible," said Premier McGuinty. "Let's also use this week to focus on the work ahead and to continue working together to ensure that each and every student in our schools has the opportunity to reach their full potential."
