Premier McGuinty Offers Condolences On Death Of Windsor Police Officer

Offers Sympathy to Family, Friends and Co-Workers

Office of the Premier

"On behalf of all Ontarians, I would like to express my condolences to the family and colleagues of Senior Constable John Atkinson, a 14-year veteran of the Windsor police service, who was tragically killed on duty.

Our thoughts go out to Senior Constable Atkinson's family -- especially his wife and two children. The loss of one of our officers is a tragedy for all of us. I don't know that there are words strong or eloquent enough to capture the courage it takes to put one's self in harm's way, in order to keep others safe.

Throughout the province, brave police officers work hard, long hours to keep us safe, to serve our communities and to help build a stronger Ontario.

For this, we owe police officers our gratitude, our respect and our support.

And for those who make the ultimate sacrifice, we will always honour and remember their devotion to duty and their commitment to service."
