Premier McGuinty Offers Sympathy For Those Affected By Floods In Philippines

Office of the Premier

Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty today made the following statement regarding the severe flooding as a result of a recent typhoon in the Philippines:

"Today I spoke with Alejandro Mosquera, Consul General of the Philippines, to express on behalf of all Ontarians, our deepest sympathies to all those who have lost loved ones in the wake of devastating floods in the Philippines. And our hearts go out to families who have lost homes and livelihoods.

Here in Ontario -- a place so many people from around the globe now call home -- we know that every citizen of our world is a neighbour. Many Ontario families have close relatives in the Philippines. This is an anxious time as they wait for word on their safety.

In particular, I discussed with the Consul General the humanitarian situation in the Philippines. Ontario will remain in close contact with the federal government as they monitor the situation.

Our thoughts and prayers are with those working around the clock to help survivors. We must pull together and do all we can to help those affected by this tragedy and offer our support as our friends in the Philippines work to rebuild communities."
