Ontario Premier Leads Trade Mission To Middle East
McGuinty Leads Business Delegation On Mission Focusing On Life Sciences
Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty arrives today in Tel Aviv on a trade mission to promote Ontario's life sciences industry to key partners and strengthen cultural ties with the Middle East. Sandra Pupatello, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade, is joining the Premier on the trip.
McGuinty will lead a business delegation of more than 40 people and meet key government and corporate partners in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
During a visit to the West Bank, McGuinty, accompanied by several delegates, will explore ways Ontario can help strengthen education, governance, small business creation and community development.
And in Beirut, McGuinty will meet with key government and business leaders to discuss ways to leverage Ontario's 65,000-strong Lebanese-Canadian community to expand trade with Lebanon.
- Trade between Ontario and Israel is worth nearly $1.1 billion.
- Israel is home to over 1,000 life sciences companies, with another 80 added every year.
- Ontario life sciences companies export $5 billion in goods and services around the world.
“Ontario's strength is our diversity, especially when we leverage it to improve the lives of people here at home and around the world. That's what we'll be doing on our mission to the Middle East -- promoting Ontario's high-skilled workers and creating opportunity here at home.”
