Ontario To Host Premiers Next Summer
Leaders Will Meet In Niagara-on-the-Lake To Shape The National Agenda
Ontario will host the 2013 summer meeting of the Council of the Federation.
Next year's Council of the Federation summer meeting will be held in Niagara-on-the-Lake from July 24 to 26, 2013. It will be an opportunity for provincial and territorial leaders to meet, discuss how together they can shape the national agenda and showcase the region as a destination for tourists and business.
The Council of the Federation was created in December 2003 to promote cooperation between provinces and territories.
- Ten provincial and three territorial premiers participate in the Council of the Federation.
- Ontario last hosted the Council of the Federation in 2004.
- The Niagara region is rich in history and natural wonders, and was on the front lines of the War of 1812 between the United States and Great Britain. It was the first capital of Upper Canada (later Ontario).
“It will be great to see my colleagues at Niagara-on-the-Lake next summer. The first capital of Upper Canada is a fitting place to work together to strengthen our provincial and territorial voices and influence the national agenda.”
“We are excited to showcase our region to premiers and representatives from all provinces and territories. With its theatres, wineries and historic inns, Niagara-on-the-Lake is a special place to be in the summertime.”
