Premier's Statement on Deaths of Toronto and York Regional Police Officers

Office of the Premier

Premier Kathleen Wynne released this statement following the death of Toronto Police Constable John Zivcic:

"My heart goes out to the family and friends of Constable John Zivcic, and all of our police officers, who have suffered a devastating loss today.

For the past seven years, Constable Zivcic has given his best to his colleagues, to his city and to the people of Ontario. We owe him an immense debt of gratitude for his sacrifice.

Today's news comes soon after we received word that York Regional Police Constable Michael Pegg, a ten-year veteran of the force, died last Friday following a training accident.

To Constable Pegg's family, friends and colleagues, you have my sympathy as you continue to come to terms with this terrible loss.

The deaths of these officers remind us that our police officers put themselves at risk every day in service to their communities. The people of Ontario thank them and their families for their service and their sacrifice."
