Premier's Statement on Linda Jeffrey

Office of the Premier

Premier Kathleen Wynne issued the following statement today thanking Linda Jeffrey for her service to the people of Ontario:

"I want to thank my friend Linda Jeffrey, for her dedication and leadership these past 11 years, on behalf of the people of Brampton Centre and Brampton-Springdale, and all of Ontario. Linda was the first woman elected to represent Brampton in provincial politics.

Linda has been a strong voice for fiscal responsibility as a member of Treasury Board and has been an invaluable member of the team that has found savings and efficiencies across government.

Elected MPP in 2003, Linda has been an integral member of the team ever since. She served in such diverse portfolios as Minister of Natural Resources, Minister of Labour, Minister Responsible for Seniors, and most recently, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing and Chair of Cabinet. In these roles, and in everything she did, Linda was a model leader and a tireless advocate for change and growth. She introduced the first Far North Act, a piece of legislation that ensures collaboration between the Ontario government and First Nations to protect the Boreal Forest and more than 200 sensitive species.

I will personally miss Linda. She is a woman of integrity and honesty and I wish her all the very best in her next endeavours."
