Premier Names New Secretary of the Cabinet
Steve Orsini to Lead the Ontario Public Service
Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne has named Steve Orsini as Secretary of the Cabinet and Clerk of the Executive Council. He will lead the Ontario Public Service effective July 9, 2014.
Orsini has served as the Deputy Minister of Finance and Secretary of the Treasury Board since December 2011.
Orsini will succeed Peter Wallace, who will serve as the Ontario Visiting Fellow with the School of Public Policy and Governance at the University of Toronto for the coming academic year.
Prior to his appointment as Secretary of the Cabinet in December 2011, Wallace was Deputy Minister at Finance, Energy and Cabinet Office and held a number of senior executive roles throughout his career. Wallace began his public service career in 1981, and leaves a legacy of distinguished leadership. Through the fellowship, his unique experience and perspectives will continue to benefit the public service and public policy more broadly.
- Greg Orencsak becomes Deputy Minister and Secretary of the Treasury Board, concurrent with his role as Deputy Minister of Government Services and Secretary of the Management Board of Cabinet, effective June 25, 2014.
- Effective July 9, 2014 Kevin French will assume the role of Deputy Minister of Finance, on an interim basis, until recruitment of a new Deputy is finalized.
“I want to thank Peter Wallace for his exemplary service to Ontarians and his leadership as a public servant for more than three decades. His advice, experience and professionalism have been invaluable to our government and have contributed to many of our accomplishments. I know Steve Orsini will serve Ontarians well and help our government lead from an activist centre – by creating jobs and growing the economy now and for the future. He will be instrumental in helping our government implement its comprehensive plan to invest in our talented and skilled workforce and secure their retirement incomes, build better roads and transit, support our dynamic business climate, and eliminate the deficit by 2017-18.”
“I am honoured by the privilege and responsibility of leading the Ontario Public Service. As Secretary of the Cabinet, I will build on our organization’s strong foundation and continue to work with dedicated public servants to serve Ontarians.”
