Premier's Statement on the 70th Anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz

Office of the Premier

Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne released the following statement on the International Day of Commemoration to Honour Victims of the Holocaust:

"Today we join people around the world in remembering the victims of the Holocaust. This year is particularly significant, as it also marks the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.

The Holocaust is one of the greatest atrocities in the history of humanity. It is a horror that we can never undo, and one that still reverberates throughout our lives today.

Yet it is important that we hold the Holocaust in our collective memories. What happened then must never be allowed to happen again. By remembering the pain, we prevent it from being repeated. By honouring the victims, we stand up against hatred.

Ontario is a place of tolerance, inclusion and the respectful celebration of all faiths. I extend my deepest gratitude to every single person in this province who has the courage to stand up against discrimination and hatred."
