Ontario Investing in Skills Training for Women

Ministry of the Status of Women

The Women's Economic Security Program (WESP) is a new program which replaces previous employment training programs and creates a single call for proposals. It is divided into four funding streams:

  • Women in Skilled Trades
  • Women in Information Technology
  • General Women's Employment Training
  • Entrepreneurship for Women's Self-Employment

Proposals were selected based on criteria that reflect regional diversity, diversity in targeted populations, and organizational capacity to meet community-based needs.

  • George Brown College for the Women Transitioning to Trades and Employment Project, and for the Fashion Exchange Pre-apprenticeship Program
  • PARO Centre for Women's Enterprise for the ParoBiz - Women's Business Development and Microloan Program
  • Collège Boréal for the Carpentry Pre-apprenticeship program
  • Elizabeth Fry Society of Toronto for the Women's Peer Supported Start Up Program
  • The Conestoga College Institute of Technology for the Enhanced General Carpentry Pre-apprenticeship program
  • Women's Enterprise Skills Training of Windsor Inc. for the Industrial Mechanic Millwright CNC Pre-Apprenticeship Program
  • Centre for Skills Development and Training for the Industrial Mechanic Millwright CNC Pre-Apprenticeship Program
  • Scadding Court Community Centre for the Women Up Program
  • YWCA of Greater Toronto for the Mobile Application Development Program, and for the Moving on to Success Program
  • Six Nations Polytechnic for the We Are Welders Pre-apprenticeship Program
  • La Cité Collégiale for Job Readiness Program for Francophone Women Program
  • Canadore College for the General Carpentry Pre-Apprenticeship Program
  • Minwaashin Lodge for the Courage to Soar Program
  • Nipissing First Nation for the True Self Debwewendizwin Program
  • OASIS Centre des femmes for the Tremplin Entrepreneuriat program

Projects previously funded under economic security programs that were not successful under WESP were provided contingency support.
