Ontario Supporting 2015 Games Torch Relay Celebrations in Welland and St. Catharines

Investment Helping to Build Excitement for Pan Am and Parapan Am Games

Residents of Welland and St. Catharines will experience the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games up close and in person when the Pan Am Torch and the Parapan Am Torch visit their communities this summer.

Through Ontario's Torch Relay Community Grant, Welland has received $5,000 for its Pan Am Torch festivities on June 20. Families will be able enjoy a day of fun featuring a pancake breakfast, face painting, crafts and music to welcome the torch at Market Square and the Wellington Community Wellness Complex.

As a major celebration site, St. Catharines has received $7,500 for its Pan Am Torch festivities on June 20 and $5,000 for its Parapan Am Torch Relay festivities on August 3. 

Both celebrations will feature musical entertainment, performers, children's crafts, sport demonstrations, food vendors and more to welcome the torches at Lakeside Park.   

Supporting a memorable and successful TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Gamesis part of the government's plan to build Ontario up. The four-part plan includes investing in people's talents and skills, making the largest investment in public infrastructure in Ontario's history, creating a dynamic, innovative environment where business thrives, and building a secure retirement savings plan.

  • Through the Torch Relay Community Grant, the province is supporting more than 130 community celebrations across Ontario.
  • Canoe/Kayak – Sprint will take place at Welland Pan Am Flatwater Centre July 11-14.
  • Rowing will take place at the Royal Canadian Henley Rowing Course July 11-15.
  • The TORONTO 2015 Games will showcase Ontario as a premier sporting destination, attracting 10,000 athletes and officials, 250,000 visitors, create 26,000 jobs and generate $3.7 billion for Ontario’s GDP.
