Executive Biography

Sophie Kiwala was first elected to the Ontario legislature in 2014 as the MPP for Kingston and the Islands.

Ms. Kiwala currently serves as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Children and Youth Services, as well as to the Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation. She was previously Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport.

She is a community champion with strong experience in the public and private sectors. Ms. Kiwala, who is bilingual, was the Office Manager for Kingston and the Islands MP Peter Milliken, and then the Chief of Staff for his successor, MP Ted Hsu.

She spent five years living in Turkey and France studying English literature and French at Athabasca University part-time. Ms. Kiwala volunteered in an expatriate women’s group to raise funds in Turkey to help build the country’s first women’s shelter. When she returned to Canada from Europe, she started working in residential and commercial renovation, interior design and rental property management.
