New Investments Supporting Over 980 Jobs in Eastern Ontario

Province Partners with Local Businesses to Boost Regional Economic Growth

Ontario is partnering with Syntronic Research and Development, IDS North America, Laminacorr, Lockheed Martin, Parmalat Canada, The Township of Edwardsburgh/Cardinal, Whitewater Brewing Company and Xplornet Communications to help create 273 new jobs and support 710 existing positions in the eastern region.

Bob Chiarelli, MPP for Ottawa West - Nepean, made the announcement today at Syntronic Research in Ottawa.

Syntronic Research and Development Canada  is an engineering company specializing in the design and development of products and test systems, including electronics, electro-mechanics and technical and administrative software for a variety of industries. With support from the Eastern Ontario Development Fund, Syntronic will purchase new equipment and improve its in-house capabilities, including being able to develop and test radio frequency modules for their current and future local and global customers.

IDS North America produces air navigation products and services in the aeronautical and aviation communications fields. With support from the Eastern Ontario Development Fund, the company will establish a new factory to manufacture advanced airborne antennas used for satellite communications.

Laminacorr Industries is the only Canadian-owned company producing corrugated plastics and is the largest independent manufacturer of the product in North America. With support from the Eastern Ontario Development Fund, the company will expand its facility and purchase new equipment to increase its productivity.

Lockheed Martin Canada is a security and aerospace company specializing in the development, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. With support from the Eastern Ontario Development Fund, the company will support its new Lockheed Martin Canada IMPACT Centre to promote the growth of small Canadian businesses and advance research.

Parmalat Canada produces milk, dairy products and ingredients, fruit juices, cheese products and table spreads under Canadian and international brand names. With support from the Eastern Ontario Development Fund, the company improved its production processes, increasing capacity and producing new products.

The Corporation of the Township of Edwardsburg/Cardinal is a rural municipality in eastern Ontario with approximately 7,000 residents. With support from the Eastern Ontario Development Fund, the township undertook road construction and associated engineering work to facilitate the opening of a Giant Tiger Stores Limited distribution warehouse.

Whitewater Brewing Company is a craft brewery in the Ottawa Valley. With support from the Eastern Ontario Development Fund, is investing in new brewing capacity and efficiency improvements.

Xplornet Communications provides broadband internet access, applications and accessories to residential and commercial customers in rural markets across Canada. With support from the Eastern Ontario Development Fund, the company is establishing its first multi-function facility in Ontario to support business growth across Canada.

Ontario's plan to support care, create opportunity and make life more affordable during this period of rapid economic change includes a higher minimum wage and better working conditions, free tuition for hundreds of thousands of students, easier access to affordable child care, and free prescription drugs for everyone under 25, and 65 or over, through the biggest expansion of medicare in a generation.

  • Parmalat Canada: Ontario invested $1,000,000 from the Eastern Ontario Development Fund, supporting an additional investment of $13,303,277 from the company. The project created 11 new jobs, helping to retain 200 existing positions and was completed in March 2017.
  • The Corporation of the Township of Edwardsburgh/Cardinal: Ontario invested $399,000 from the Eastern Ontario Development Fund, supporting an additional investment of $741,000 from the township. The project was completed in December 2017.
  • Whitewater Brewing Company: Ontario is investing $535,600 from the Eastern Ontario Development Fund, supporting an additional investment of $3,034,400 from the company. The project will create 55 new jobs, help to retain 52 existing positions and will be completed by January 2022.
  • Xplornet Communications: Ontario is investing $235,700 from the Eastern Ontario Development Fund, supporting an additional investment of $2,120,800 from the company. The project will create 130 new jobs, help to retain 8 existing positions and will be completed by January 2022.
  • Ontario is accepting applications for the Eastern Ontario Development Fund from qualified businesses that are growing and creating jobs. Sectors eligible for the fund include advanced manufacturing, food processing, life sciences, information and communications technology, tourism and cultural industries.
  • Since 2013, the Eastern Ontario Development Fund has committed support of over $55 million, helping to create and retain over 10,000 jobs and leveraging over $570 million in total investments.
  • Ontario’s five-year, $650-million Business Growth Initiative is helping to grow the economy and create jobs by promoting an innovation-based economy, helping small companies scale-up and modernizing regulations for businesses.
